What's this crumpled mess?

Flowerbasket

Why, it's my Flowerbasket Shawl! I started this on Sunday night because I was just itching for a new lace project. I'm using Gem's Merino on size 7 needles, yet another stash project! This is one of the "hot" colors for fall, but I've loved this color for a long time (see this sweater coat from last year?), and this particular yarn has been in my stash for 2 years. It was originally going to be some sort of loose-knit sweater, but it looked to sloppy so it got shoved in a bag and forgotten.

The texture of this yarn is very similar to Koigu, which only improves my love of it. I'm into the second ball, and I think I won't make this much longer, even though I have 3 balls of this stuff. I know I'm late to the party on this project, seeing as Amy, Stephanie, and who knows who else have all made this already. This is one of those projects that didn't look interesting until I saw someone else knitting it. . . in the original magazine, it just didn't appeal to me. Maybe it was the color, or the alpaca, or the photo, who knows? But I'm loving it now, and the lace pattern is only a 10-row repeat, with every wrong-side row being purled, so I memorized it after two repeats. Perfect commute knitting, until it got to be too big. I love it!

color, in case you care)

Wow!! Love the color! I’m on Repeat #10 working towards Repeat #14. I want mine bigger than the pattern calls for. I still have to use a chart on most rows, but as it’s my first lace, I’ve actually found the process entertaining. Except for the RIPPING part (gg).

Can’t wait to see it done!

it’s the color and the way it was worn on the model — you couldn’t tell how pretty the lace was! Just the edging, really. I got the misty alpaca myself in a color very close to what you’re using… starting it after I finish kiri!
