Fall Forecast

I don't know about you, but I like to follow fashion trends and know what's what. My favorite fashion season is, of course, the fall season, AKA Time for Sweaters. And this fall, knitwear is HUGE. If you don't believe me, check out the big guys at style.com. Look at the Fall RTW shows from Chanel, Stella McCartney, Prada, Versace, Louis Vuitton, etc etc. There are some big names like TSE, Malo, and MaxMara which always have knitwear and interesting sweaters, but this season it seems like everyone jumped on the bandwagon and everywhere I look, there's another interesting piece!

The big knit look for fall? Sweater dresses. Cute ones! Followed closely by big, roomy cardigans and pullovers, vests, and capes. I just got the new issue of Lucky and there are TONS of sweaters/vests/dresses in there, it's worth buying just for the knitting inspiration.

Everywhere I look there's cute new knitwear for fall! Wanna come along with me as I window-shop virtually?

There's this Iisli cabled bubble dress you can preorder at Intermix:

Also from Intermix, LaROK's (one of my favorites for interesting knits) shawl collar tweedy pullover and YaYa's (another favorite!) cabled scoop neck sweater dress.

My favorite piece from Piazza Sempione, available at Saks:

I guarantee that this sweater will be knocked off in the pages of VK sometime within the next 12 months!

Also at Saks, I love this Vince v-neck tunic and plan to knit myself something very similar as my next project . . . actually, almost every Vince piece is pretty great!

As for color for fall, it's all dark and serious: black is everywhere, followed closely by grey, dark purple, navy, "midnight blue" and neutrals of every type. Just in the two examples above you can see that! I'm all for this palette, these colors are flattering and easy to wear (at least for me), and it's so fresh after all the pastels/pinks/frills of the last few seasons.

These two pictures also show the "new proportions" for fall: Big on top and tight on the bottom. Now that even Gap is selling leggings/tights, the trend's gotta be almost dead, but not quite yet! Tight, fitted bottoms with volume on top is the asthetic du jour, and it looks like it's here to stay at least for the next 6 months or so. I actually really like this new look, and it can be worn in a variety of different ways without looking to early-90's.

Oh, and before I forget: if you're looking for cheap leggings that have the consistency of good-quality tights, try Express. They're true to size, just the right opaque black, easy to adjust in length, and very comfortable. And while you're there, all their jeans are deeply discounted, I just got another pair of super-skinny jeans for $29! And in the next size down from the last pair, in case you were wondering. ;o)
