Crappy NYC Experience #376

Posted on October 19, 2006 by knittingpatterns4you | 6 Comments

I walked across the street to my usual coffee spot this morning and there's a big line. So I get in line and wait, a few minutes pass as I grumpily think "hurry up!" thoughts to the people in front of me and look around the tiny coffee shop for the zillionth time, trying to distract myself . . . when I see a RAT run clear across the store, around the first person in line and back behind the counter!

I turned right around and walked a block away to my second favorite place for morning coffee.

What really sucks is that I'm certain there are rats in the 2nd place, too. There are rats pretty much anywhere there's food here (and many other places, too). I work in a pretty ritzy neighborhood that's cleaner than most, and it's really rare to see a rat out in the open but everyone knows they're around . . . you just don't have to think about them, usually.

I know eventually I'll get over it and the lure of good coffee will bring me back to "my" coffee place.

How many days do I have to suffer through mediocre coffee before I forget about the rat?

(and yes, I am mostly kidding. If this were my biggest concern I'd be one lucky girl!)

Listen, rats and coffee are two very serious matters. Non-coffee drinkers do not understand what we would rather suffer than a crappy cup of coffee.

Sounds like some establishments need some good old fashioned ratters…cats! Plus, cats go well with coffee and yarn!

Yick! I am not going to ask where so I’m not actively avoiding that place. Mice run around my school but not rats. Yick!

I think I’d bring my own coffee. Thermos time. More cats.

ugh, gross. this is one thing that i really hate about new york, along with the roaches. they are everywhere! i don’t even think that it’s possible to get rid of them. there would have to be some nuclear holocaust before all the rats were extinguished (but then we would be gone as well!)

now i’m going to have visions of radioactive rats in my head all day :) wow, talk about tangent.

Oh, ick ick ICK! It’s one thing to know they’re running around the infrastructure of the city is one thing. To see them inside during the day with a lot of people around is totally different. And disgusting. And would have ruined my day totally. Three guesses what my irrational fear is.
