2008: My least-knitty year in recent memory

Happy New Year everybody!

We threw our first real "party" as a couple yesterday, and I lost my mind a little (in a good way!) cooking for some of my favorite people. I'll do a food post later, but for now suffice it to say that I've inherited my father's tendency to cook WAY TOO MUCH for any occasion!

The end of the year always makes me want to organize closets and categorize things, so I dug out a lot of my yarn and rearranged things . . . at which point I "found" lots of almost-finished projects that have been languishing for far too long. Which made me think about how little knitting I actually finished this year. Ravelry tells me I only finished TWO sweaters this year, compared to last year's 18! How nuts is that? I knit lots of socks (5 pairs complete, many more single socks), a few cowls, some winter accessories, and one big chuppah, but that's pretty much it. And I didn't release any patterns except for Soho! How sad!

I think there were two main things that hurt my knitting this year: I was burned out from 3.5 years slinging yarn and often didn't even feel like LOOKING at my knitting, and I spent the first half of the year planning a wedding instead of playing during my free time. The other problem was assigning myself several BIG projects this year, none of which got finished (except the chuppah!). RIght now I'm focusing on finishing the last few of those big projects so I can start 2009 on a cleaner slate.

Here's hoping 2009 is filled with finished projects, gorgeous yarn, and more than a few new patterns for all of you!

Although you didn’t finish as many items, those that you did were beautiful. You also had a lot of things going on this year, which will slow down your knitting production.
