FO: Wollmeise Socks

I wore these socks for the first time this week and I figured something out: wearing handknit socks will make any day better. I'm not kidding!

It was rainy and muddy and I didn't get any sleep and somehow when I slipped these socks on I felt instantly better. They're not even the prettiest socks ever or anything, it's just the feeling of having them on your feet. So cozy and comforting!

Needless to say after the above introduction: I am so in love with these socks! I'd never before managed to snag a skein of Wollmeise when they went on sale so when I was able to buy a skein from The Loopy Ewe I was super excited! I think the reason this batch of Wollmeise wasn't sold out in a minute flat is because it's not the 100% wool kind, this is the Wollmeise Sockenwolle 80/20 Twin, which is 80% Merino/20% nylon. Even so, when I checked back on the sale about 20 minutes after I bought my skein, it was totally sold out! By luck I just happened to read the Tweet announcing the sale in time to snag a skein for myself.

I have to say that while I liked the yarn just fine, I didn't really see what all the fuss is about with this brand. I know that part of the madness is due to the scarcity alone, and I also realize that I picked a rather sedate color from their line . . . but truthfully this yarn didn't seem much better or worse than any other good sock yarn I've ever used. It was a little bit on the splitty side even!

But I'm really happy with the way the socks came out. I did the same simple rib detail I just came up with for the last Koigu sock and it worked equally well with this striping color as it did with the Koigu. Made the legs longer than I normally do because the skein is so large, and I still had almost half the skein left over! I plan to buy some coordinating sock yarn to knit another pair with contrast heels/toes.

These have already gone through their first (hand) wash and came out softer and smoother than they went in. I'm wearing them again today and my feet couldn't be much happier!

Don't they look happy to you?

(and don't these pictures look awesome? My new umbrella light rules!)
