I thought it would be fun to have a contest on the blog since I so rarely do that. Having 3 samples for one pattern gave me a (hopefully!) great idea: Give away 2 of them!
So to celebrate the publication of the Leila pattern, I’m doing it! All you have to do to enter is leave a comment on this post telling me two things:
- What’s your favorite (commercially-available) yarn?
- Which color shawlette do you want?
I’ll give you a week (until midnight eastern time on Thursday night/Friday morning) to leave your comment. On next Friday, July 31st, 2009, I’ll pick 2 people randomly and mail your chosen shawlette to you!
To help you make up your mind, here’s better pictures of each shawlette with yarn descriptions:
From left to right, we’ll call them: Purple, Aqua, and Wine
The purple shawlette was knit in Socks that Rock Lightweight in color Tanzanite
The aqua shawlette was knit with Koigu KPPPM in color P903
The wine shawlette was knit in Fleece Artist Merinoe 2/6 (colorway unknown)
All 3 are about 19″ down the center back and 39″ across, but the wine one did come out a tiny bit smaller (not really noticeable). All 3 have been blocked and the different merinos are all very soft after washing. The only important difference is the color!

there are a couple that I love – malabrigo lace, baruffa cashwool and berocco ultra alpaca fine.
2. Which color shawlette do you want?
the purple one – my son’s football colors are purple and white, so i would be able to wear it at his games (10th grade, JV football this year, we’re waiting for fed ex to show up with his new cleats… they’re on the truck for delivery)

My favorite commercial yarn is currently Shepherd’s Worsted. – Good yardage, good price point, lovely colors and sooooooft!

1. My favorite commercially available yarn is Koigu. I adore the color choices, and can spend hours in front of a great display of them! I’ve been making fingerless gloves with it, and love the way it works up.
2. Honestly, I’d take any of the three and feel so excited to get one. If I had my druthers, I’d take the wine one.

I’m a relatively new knitter but I love bulky yarns. So far I’d say my favorite has been a toss up between Lanaloft Mystical Pink… I love the color… and Caron Simply Soft Quick… because even though it was big box yarn, it was soooo super soft!

I think my favorite yarn is Noro kureyon sock. I like all the shawls, but aqua is my favorite!
There are lots of yummy yarns, but my favorite (that I have also knit with) is the Handmaiden Casbah Sock Yarn.
All three shawls look great, but I am definitely a wine girl ;).
What a wonderfully generous giveaway! SOme of my favorite yarn came all the way from New Zealand as a gift from a great friend–Touch Yarns Merino DK. My favorite all purpose go to yarn is Patons Classic.
Right now I’m loving the Malabrigo silky merino that I’m using for my first pair of socks. I’ve also felted their bulky into a bag that gets lots of compliments.

I guess my favourite yarn is a yarn I use for most of the socks I knit, Novita Nalle. It’s easy to find where I live and it’s not too pricy.
I love the way it looks in aqua.
My favorite yarn is Misti Alpaca Laceweight, because it feels heavenly – and has great yardage – but it’s still affordable for people like me who don’t have as much of a yarn budget as they would like.

Your shawls are absolutely beautiful. I find it very hard to pick a favorite. I guess it would be the aqua shawl or the wine shawl. My favorite shawl is the aqua shawl. My favourite yarn… probably Patons Classic Wool. It’s not the most luxurious yarn, but it fits my budget, has lots of gorgeous colours, and is super versatile. :)
How pretty. I especially love the aqua one. My favorite at the moment is Dream in Color Smooshy – I am currently knitting with it and I am really in love with the feel.
I find that I mostly work with merino… I just love the feel of it. And my heart will always belong to the Brown Sheep Lambs Pride Superwash. It was what I made my first sweater out of (Feb lady!) and it’s gorgeous.
And all three of those shawlettes are GORGEOUS, but purple is my favorite color. So that’s where my eye was drawn to first.
My favourite yarn – that is very difficult… I really like all sock yarns, but especially collinette jitterbug and I love easyknits yarns.
I really love the aqua shawlette – which surprises me as normally I would pick purple without even looking. But that blue is gorgeous!

My favorite yarn is Debbie Bliss Merino DK. I love the feel of it, it comes in beautiful colors and is fun to work with. Wish I could afford to buy Debbie Bliss yarn for every project I make :-P Love your shawls but the purple one is calling “Pick me, pick me!”
My favorite yarn is probably Knit Picks Shimmer. I love alpaca, and it’s a lace yarn that’s warm fuzzy alpaca with just a little bit of silk to make it shiny.

I’d say my favorite yarn would be Jo Sharp Alpaca Silk Georgette (which, of course, is being discontinued!), and I really love that teal color of the second shawlette.

I have a LOT of yarns I love but current standouts are Rowan biggy print because it’s so amazingly soft and fun to work with and Handpainted Yarn merino lace because of the subtle variations in color and texture of the fabric I get from it. I love the wine best, although they are all beautiful.

My favorite commercially available yarn? Blue Moon Fiber Arts hands down. But if they don’t count, then I love me some Blue Sky Alpaca Dyed Cotton. Sooo soft!

I think they are all very beautiful! I prefer the wine coloured one and my favourite yarns to buy are Fleece Artist and Handmaiden. I live in Canada and belong to both Canada and the United States. Born in California, and moved to Canada to marry my sweetheart over 32 years ago. Thus my love of Fleece Artist/Handmaiden just happened.
I love the design of these Shawlettes because it is different, interesting, and shawlettes are so nice to wear on cool nights or to just make myself feel beautiful when I’m having a day when I feel very, very old and tired.
I think my favorite yarn is, boringly enough, cascade 220. So versatile, affordable and awesome. And I love the teal shawl!

My favorite yarn would have to be Aslan Trends Invernal. I LOVE anything with angora just because of how wonderfully soft it is against the skin. My favorite yarn changes often, and its usually whatever I’m working with at the time. Right now, its some local worsted wool from nearby pastures (Bodega Pastures in northern CA). It is rugged, a little rough, and has that homespun uniqueness and beauty. I knit and sell hats at a local farmer’s market, and people love when I use the local wool.
And I LOVE the wine colored shawl….. :) Its absolutely beautiful and would have a wonderful home here with moi!
My favorite yarn is only available at my LYS. It is from Woolbearers in NJ. The shop owner hand dyes it. So it would be Delaware Valley Ringspun. And the best part is she will dye in any colorway I want! My favorite colors are the red earth tones. Love em. And I want to say thank you to you from all of us lucky participants. Right now, cause I am working with it, I love Malabrigo, I would love the purple shawl, I don’t have anything that color.
I’d say Cascade 220, because with all of the colors it is so versatile. Though for projects worn mostly against the skin, like tank tops, I prefer cotton.
The aqua shawlette is my fave.

I love the aqua shawl!! I tend to wear a lot of black when I get dressed up, and this would be a great contrast to that!!
As for commercial yarn…does stuff that we buy at box stores count?? I haven’t been knitting very long, and other than a few scattered baby gifts, I mostly knit charity blankets…so, with that said, there’s nothing like the wear and tear of Lion Brand’s Vanna’s Choice. I have been reading all of the comments from everyone else, and I cannot wait to try all of the different types that they mentioned!!!

Of the yarns I have used I like Sublime merino wool. All of the shawls are gorgeous. My choice is the aqua.

That’s a hard question to answer. For special (because it’s pricey for me), Araucania Ruca Multy, which is made of sugar cane and has lovely colors. In sock yarn, Sockotta for fun patterning. As the workhorse, Cascade 220. (I’m only naming yarns I use, rather than yarns I covet.)
On the second part, it’s another tough question to answer. But if drawn, I think I’d go for the wine shawlette. They’re all lovely.
My favourite yarn at the moment is Regia Bamboo soft yarn. It knitted like a dream and my socks are lovely and comfy and keep my feet cool.
Oops forgot to say would be happy with any colour but the aqua would be lovely.
I love most natural fiber yarns. My favorite right now is Trabejos del Peru hand-dyed merino wool which is a thick-thin yarn dyed with jewel-toned colors..really soft and pretty.

As far as my favorite commercially available yarn is concerned, it is a toss up between Lorna’s Laces and Rowan — and I like them for different reasons. I like Rowan’s variety — 4-ply soft, wool cotton, cotton glace, kidsilk haze, etc. — and its wide variety of solid colors. I like Lorna’s Laces because of the colorways.
As to the shawlette I would want, it is a toss up between the purple and the wine shawlettes, with the edge going to the wine one. Purple is one of my favorite colors, but I have several shawls in various purples already, so I’d go with the wine shawlette — I don’t usually think of buying that color yarn, but it looks spectacular!

Hummm.., I guess I’d have to say the purple or the wine colour would be my favorite,of the three shown. I love red though. But my favorite commercial yarn is Baby Ull by Dale of Noway. It’s a merino,very washable and I like the finer yarns as opposed to bulkier fibers. I like rowan Aran Tweed too but they have removed it from the market. So Baby Ull is my favorite yarn to work with(I’m allergic to wool but can use this without problems) and purple is my favorite colour.

Commercially available yarn: there’s so many choices for lovely yarns out there! I’m a sucker for silk, though… I do like the Jaeger Zephyr wool/silk laceweight!
The shawlettes are all beautiful, but I think the aqua one speaks the loudest right now.

As for the beautiful shawlettes i think i am a fan of the aqua…yes, definitely the aqua.
My favorite yarn is Lorna’s Laces at the moment. I like it because of the extreme variety of colorways and how I have seen it work up into both pooling and non-pooling finished objects that just look awesome.
For the shawlette that I would like, it would have to be the turquoise one. I’ve never worked with or felt (or even found) Koigu where I’m at and I love wearing the color. All of the shawlettes look great!

My favorite commercially available yarn (this week) is Caron Simply Soft. I’m working on a project that needs to be super soft, easy to care for, and durable. CSS fits the bill!
My favorite shawlette is the aqua one. It will look great when I dye my hair red again!
I love the Aqua shawlette it is a color I am drawn to then again I pretty much like all shades of blue. As far as commercially available yarns I really like araucania ranco great yardage at a really good price and lots of colors to chose from. I also love the Socks that Rock Raven colors

My favorite right now is Lorna’s Laces sock. The colors are amazing, and it doesn’t split…I can use it for the very mindless knitting I’m doing while waiting in various hospital waiting rooms. Comforting.
As for the color shawl? They are all very, very pretty, and I’d be happy to win any one of them.

Currenly, I’m in love with Carron Simply Soft. It’s soft (hence the name), it’s washable, and best of all – it fits in my budget.

I’m still new to the world of premium yarns, but at the moment I’m eagerly awaiting using my Ultra Alpaca from Berroco, and I love seeing what people do with the Kauni Effektgarn yarn, though I have yet to see it in person.

All the shawlettes are gorgeous! I am torn between the purple and the wine one, but if I had to pick just one I think it would be the wine one. I love the noro yarns. I think silk garden is my favorite at the moment.

My favorite yarn I’ve tried so far is Serenity sock weight–very soft and I really like the bamboo blend–but lots more I’d like to try.
I especially like the purple shawlette, but all of them are lovely, and I’d be happy with any one of them!
I think they’re all lovely! I’m a huge fan of Socks that Rock med & heavy weight. However Dream in Color Classy is fast becoming a favorite!
