Another single sock

On Monday I stayed home from work because my stomach was very unhappy with me (enough said) and spent most of the day on the couch knitting or at my computer working on the vest pattern. Even though I felt like crap, it was nice to spend a day focusing on the knitting!

The sock you see above got added to the single-sock pile early on Monday morning and in an attempt to ward off my terrible SSS, I immediately cast on for its mate. I can hardly believe it but I'm almost done with that sock now too! Apparently this is the way to get a pair of socks done . . . good to know.

Even though I'm not going to get to wear these for months, I'm still super in love with the socks. I think it's because the yarn is so SO lovely: It's Malabrigo Sock and this is my first time working with it. The color is called Abril and it's a stunning mix of purples, with bits of blues and violets mixed in. Look at this:

I can't get over how beautiful it is. I took a bunch of pictures of the fabric but they didn't all come out, the above one is probably the best one but this one isn't too bad either:

So pretty!

I don't think I will ever get over my enjoyment of handpainted yarn knit up into plain stockinette. It's practically magical!

And Malabrigo Yarn itself is really great to work with, too: no splitting, nice even stitches (didn't have to tell you that, you see it above right?), seems like it will wear very well. I bought a sweater's worth of a different color of this yarn but I'm not sure I like it for a sweater, it's a bit too stringy for that . . . may end up swapping those skeins for other colors to knit socks with. You know, since I don't have that much sock yarn stashed away.
