New IK

We got the new Interweave Knits on Friday, so I brough it with me for some plane knitting. Think this issue's pretty amazing! I like the cover sweater a lot, although I'd make it in something thinner at the same gauge so that you don't have two layers of chunky yarn over your stomach. . . but I really really LOVE this pullover:

Aranpullover

By Kristin Nicholas.

I rarely knit from patterns but every once in a while you get bit by that project and you just have to do it, you know? I actually even have the yarn in stash, but I'm feeling I may not be able to hold out until I get home to start it, I may break down and buy yarn here.

If I do make this, though, I'm drastically changing the shape of the sweater. Drop sleeves are so unflattering on me, and the cable pattern is graphic enough that if I break it with some set in sleeve shaping, it'll look good anyway, so I'm planning on working set in sleeves. I love the moss stitch sleeves as written in the pattern, they'd look even better if the sweater looks like it fits you! Or is that just my way of thinking? The model in this is wearing a sweater that measures 38.5" at the bust, but she can't be more than 31" around, if that. I think this will be much cuter in a more form-conscious shape and size. . . we'll see if I'm right!

I also liked the funny slippers with fuzzy yarn on the leg. . . I may have finally lost my mind completely, but I may have to make myself a pair of those. . .

I agree with you about the sweater sizing in that picture. It is a beautiful piece that is just hanging on the model. I look foward to seeing how you alter the shape!

I think the sweater looks fine on this particular model; she is a stick! I agree with you though: anyone who weighs more than 100 pounds needs some shaping or it will end up looking like an unflattering sack. It’s a great sweater, though. I love Nicholas’ creative eye.

I can’t wait to see how you “remodel” that sweater. I think it will be gorgeous.

I too love that sweater and I have a re-cycle sweater in my stash that may be perfect! Good luck!
