One more for the single sock collection

When I traded for the Yarntini self-striping yarn in Strawberry Daquiri (one of the best things about Ravelry for me has been the successful trades I've made!), I wasn't sure how I'd knit it up. Then one day it was sitting in my stash next to a ball of green Koigu (color P539) and I thought, "Hey! Watermelons!"

I originally planned on making knee-length socks, or however long one ball of Yarntini would go. So I decided to make them toe-up, which I generally dislike. I also did short-row heels (which I also dislike) to keep the stripes from breaking. Then at some point, I put them on when they were about 5" tall and though, "Self, you're never going to wear pink striped, green trimmed knee socks" -- and my inner voice was right. So these will be slightly-taller-than-normal socks.

Whenever I get around to making the second one, that is.

What great colors in your sock. Sort of watermelon. Very cute. Hope you had lots of fun at Stitches.

I think they would make absolutely spectacular kneesocks. Can you imagine flashing them from a side-slit long skirt? Elderly gentlemen would fall off their bicycles.

Always a good idea to cast on both socks at the same time, on separate circulars if necessary, and work a bit on one, then on the other. Totally avoids SSS. Grouchywif on Knitter’s Review Forum gave me that tip way back, and I’ve followed it ever since.

You do know, don’t you, that Italy is one of the last Western European places where they actually still spin yarn rather than importing it and pretending it’s theirs? I should check out any mills or factories near Rome, and then sneak round the back door. There is almost always a big rubbish container with unwanted cones…

I think it’s a great sock! I can imagine that little bit of green peeping out of your shoe when you walk… that is, if you finish the second one!

You could also stuff it with candy and goodies for a holiday sock.

Dude, you and your single socks? One day, you will finish a pair! I’m glad you didn’t go with the knee socks. That just would not have been right.

I love the colors together. I’ve noticed I tend to struggle with SSS when I don’t cast on the second one IMMEDIATELY after finishing the first. And I mean immediately—I Kitchener one and then just take the needles and cast on again.
