So . . .

The big change I mentioned a few posts ago? In full swing, and going very well.

The short version of the story is that I quit String and have started a new job. Before everyone gets all, "But who would quit a knitting store job!" let me just preemptively say that it was time for me to move on (I worked there more than 3.5 years!) and that nothing horrible happened to make me quit. I had actually been thinking of leaving for over 6 months, and this seemed like a good time to do it.

My new job is Office Manager at a small software company - it's actually kind of similar to what I did at String, except there's no retail aspect. I like this kind of job because of the variety of job functions involved, that way I never get bored! Yesterday was my 3rd day and I like everyone I'm working with and the office runs well and I already have lots of autonomy, which is very important for me (big surprise, I'm sure). A pleasant surprise, once I started working, was reading their employee manual - they give better benefits/vacation/etc than ANY job I've ever had! King of shocking, really, since this is a small company.

Anyway, that's the big news. Hope I didn't scare any of you too much with that previous post!

BTW, my chuppah is almost done . . . I am going to have to take it to my parent's house to block though, no way do I have that much room in my little apartment!!

Wonderful news! Having worked retail, AND having been in String and met a few of your customers, including one that would not go away even though the door was locked, saying “I see her moving around in there!!! I know she’s in there!!! She can’t leave without getting by ME!!!” I absolutely understand.

I work for a small company as well in administration, and like it as much as I could like, you know, a Job Job.

Best wishes!

Congrats on the new job! Sometimes it’s good to shake things up a bit. Though I’m a bit sad I never made it up to String to introduce myself!

Good for you! I’m happy for you. That’s definitely good news. Nothing wrong with that. While working for a yarn store is fun, I’m sure, as with any job, after a time, you may wish for something new. Who can blame you? Good luck with your new job and career!

Congratulations on the new job! Sometimes a big change is a wonderful thing…fresh outlook, new faces, stimulating new environment. While I will miss talking to you at String by phone from Bethesda, I know you’re excited with new opportunities! When I need fashion, pattern, and yarn advice at String, who would be the person you recommend I speak with??? Wishing you lots of fun on your new job (and raises & promotions too!) Marla
