FO: Adorable Booties

Posted on July 09, 2007 | 4 Comments

These are quite possibly the cutest thing I've ever seen!!! And so quick to make, although as is usual with such small projects, the finishing takes practically as long as the knitting. Before you smarty-pants make any comments, these are a gift for a friend who's expecting.

Project specs:
Pattern: Saartje's Bootees, free pattern available here
Yarn: KPPPM color P436, a tiny bit (you can probably get 5 or 6 pairs out of one ball of Koigu)
Needles: US size 2
Started: July 8, 2007
Finished: July 9, 2007

FO: Silk Garden Halfobi

Posted on June 18, 2007 | 2 Comments

I finally got around to photographing the Silk Garden version of my Halfobi pattern, so now I can share it with the world!

I made the medium size again and used a little less than 6 skeins of Noro Silk Garden in color 205. If you want to use Silk Garden for your Halfobi, which comes in 3 size options, you'll need 5 (6, 7) skeins of yarn.

What's great about the Silk Garden version is the color changes, of course. I thought for a second that I might try to make the two halves symmetrical, then I came to my senses and just let the color changes happen freely. It tuned out that the two fronts are similar but not identical, but the sleeves are completely different. But you don't notice because the overall look is very cohesive, and who can argue with the genius that is Noro yarn?

I've updated the Halfobi pattern page to include information on knitting it with Silk Garden.

Project specs:
Pattern: Halfobi
Yarn: 6 skeins Noro Silk Garden color 205
Needles: US size 7
Started: March 2007
Finished: March 2007

Laura Cardigan Pattern now Available!

Laura Cardigan Pattern

I've just put the last finishing touches on the pattern and set up the website for sale! Finally!

Laura is my latest pattern, and one of my all time favorite sweaters! This updated classic is a tunic length cardigan featuring patterned yoke and cuffs knit in an easy cable pattern. Here's a closeup of the stitch that graces the yoke and cuffs:

Since this shape is flattering on many body types, I decided to offer a wider range of sizes. The pattern is sized for:

Sizes: XX-Small (X-Small, Small, Medium, Large, X-Large)

Finished Measurements: Bust: 30 (33, 36, 40, 44, 50)"

Gauge: 16 sts and 24 rows to 4" in stockinette on size US 10 (6mm) needles

Materials: 4 (4, 5, 6, 6, 7) skeins Prism Cashmere (100% cashmere), 164yds/100gr

You can substitute any heavy worsted or light bulky yarn that gives you 4 sts/inch. It would look equally gorgeous in a solid or a softly heathered yarn!

This pattern, like all of my patterns, is available only as a PDF download. Payment with PayPal gets you an immediate email with a download link, and then you're all set to start! (Please note that if you pay with an eCheck the email comes immediately after the eCheck clears)

Thanks for your patience while I worked on this pattern! I am already working on the next one so hopefully there will be less lag time between patterns in the future!
Enjoy!

FO: Throw Pillows

Posted on May 08, 2007 | 5 Comments

Sewn throw pillows

A little later than I planned, here is the FO post for the pillows I sewed for my couch. You can see the color of the couch is a rather uninspired shade of moss green, so I had this plan to make some funky pillows with prints that might brighten up the place. It's really hard to figure out what goes with drab moss, everything in the living room is a neutral because I don't like anything with this color. So I decided to go for some strong colors to shake things up, and plan on adding more chocolate brown and turquoise to the room to bring it all together.

The pillow on the left is my favorite, I absolutely fell in love with the fabric when I was at Purl Patchwork and I had to have it. Don't ask me what fabric it is or who makes it because I have absolutely no idea, they don't have it online so I have no way of tracking it down. I especially love that little spider going down the left side! This pillow measures 20x20.

The pillow on the right I wasn't so sure about, which is why I made it smaller (it is 16x16). I don't usually like this sort of Urban-Outfitters-clashing-on-purpose look, but the green in it goes with the couch and the branch motif goes with the other pillow. What's weird about these prints is that I HATE birds and somehow ended up with two pillows that have birds on them! I sewed this one first in case I screwed up, figuring I would just throw it out if it didn't come out right. Turns out I still remember how to use my sewing machine, even though it's been 3 years since I last pulled it out.

These were such a simple project I'm almost ashamed to claim them as a real FO! But I'm happy to have them on the couch and I'm happy I was able to make them without any issues. It's making me more confident that I might be able to sew something to wear, although I realize that there is no comparison between sewing 3 sides of a square (I hand-sewed the 4th side after putting the pillow form in) and sewing a shirt . . .

Project specs:
Pattern: They're squares. Sewn together.
Fabric: 1 yard each of 2 different prints from Purl Soho (I have tons left over of both)
Started: April 30, 2007
Finished: May 2, 2007

I'm thinking of using the leftovers for a crochet hook holder . . .
