Hello from England!

Here I am at King's Cross Station looking at Platform 9 3/4 . . . I was so excited! And please note that there were NO KIDS there at all, the only people milling around taking pictures were adults my age and older. ;o) And see the flowers that Adam surprised me with at the airport?

My flight was pretty awful, I've never been on a more uptight flight in my life. And the guy next to me smelled bad, and I couldn't fall asleep, and then we landed late and the line at customs was huge. But it's ok, cuz now I'm here with my boyfriend and we're gonna have a great time! I already ate chips, went to one store where they sell yarn (there aren't LYSs here, it's more like department stores and sewing stores that also sell yarn), and toured the Cambridge campus, which is stunning.

I'll be getting lots of knitting done on this trip, I can already tell! Adam still has some work to do before the week is over, and everything closes early, so we watch DVDs at night and I can knit. I have the Dream sweater body almost done, and am already dreaming of a new project.

We'll be going to London for a day later this week, and next week we may go to Barcelona for a few days. I'll post more pictures when I get a chance!

PS - new Special of the Week is up on the String website.

Ivete, there is a Rowan shop right near the bus station in Oxford, so if you go to see Oxford by bus, check it out. (When my husband was a grad. student at Cambridge, there was a good yarn shop there but it went out of business) Other good yarn hunting clues…check out charity shops! The charity shops often have the leftovers from someone’s knitting projects. I’ve found lovely cottons and wool. My best find? Someone’s entire collection of knitting pins, from 0000 dps to 10 mm straights, for 5 pounds. If you don’t mind wandering around, give it a shot! Oh, when you’re in London, don’t forget Liberty’s and the other big department store knitting shops, especially if you’re there for the January sales. I got Rowan Polar half off last January… :) Joanne
