New sock design
I almost finished the first sock of this new design. I realized that if I want to have finished pairs of socks, maybe a good strategy would be to come up with new designs that I can publish, as incentive to finish the project! Seems to be working, too, cuz I've been working on this sock non stop!
I'm using Socks that Rock in the Rhodonite colorway, a gorgeous and super-intense mix of barbie pink and purple. I've had this idea in my mind to run a slip stitch cable down the sides of a pair of socks, and it took me a few tries to get the stitch pattern just right. Here's a better shot for detail:
This is the right sock, the left one will have the pattern mirror imaged (both the diamond itself and its placement) so they each run down the outside edge of each foot. I love the idea of a simple detail that plays with the handpainted yarn without fighting with it too much -- this cable uses slipped stitches to mix up the colors and yet is really easy to memorize, the perfect combination for a sock (at least in my opinion!).
My plan right now is to offer two versions of this design, I already have a variation on the theme thought up and even have yarn lined up to use for it. The second one will have the diamond pattern all over the leg with the one diamond going down the foot, and will be knit in semi-solid Koigu.
This isn't to say that I haven't been knitting tons of other projects, too. I've almost finished several other things, including another hat, a pullover, a jacket, and most of a short-sleeve sweater. I just haven't had the time or energy to talk about them here. I'm dealing with some health issues right now that haven't gotten resolved yet, all I feel like doing in my free time is taking a nap. Hopefully I'll be back at full strength soon . . .
