September's New Colors and Koigu Pairings

September's new colors chiagu.com

Striking new KPPPM colors are 15% off until September 23rd! From left to right: P106, P112B, P134, P370 and P603.

  • We had P106 earlier this year; however it was more blue with less pink and yellow. Another good choice for baby projects.
  • P112B is a fantastic purple with green and violet - fabulous color for folks who love strong colors.
  • I like to describe P134 as a "dark rainbow", a nice complement to those jackets we wear when it gets cooler.
  • We had P370 previously but it was more grey and not as speckled as this dyelot. It's a lovely blue with teal occasionally peeking out.
  • I'm loving P603 which is orange with some curry yellow. It goes well with our newest KPM color - 2400-0013 which is the color black. (Halloween colors anyone?)

Speaking of KPM - I'm adding the solid colors throughout the year and move the KPM yarn to their own section on the website.

Koigu Pairings KPM/KPPPM yarn

See how the KPM plum picks up the plum in the multicolor skein? One of the customer I know in real life has already scoop up this pairing for her Koigu collection.

I've started to pair up single skeins of KPPPM (multicolors) with single skeins of KPM (solid colors). I call them Koigu Pairings . Let me know how you like them.

New York Sheep and Wool (Rhinebeck) is around the corner and for the second year I will be a vendor at the Indie Untangled Rhinebeck Trunk Show Friday evening. I've been sewing up a storm - there are new prints for the drawstring project bags and (hopefully) I can sneak in one or two new bag styles. I love meeting you guys - stop by and say hello!

August's New Colors

Posted on August 18, 2016 | 0 Comments

We have three pretty blues for the dog days of summer.  From left to right the colors are P446, P409, P303. They are 15% off until August 24th.

Color P446-0003 is gorgeous, I would make something that I could look at while I wore it, like gloves or a shawl.

Color P409-200 is beautiful, it's very close to a Koigu blue that I used for my Clapotis scarf.

Color P303-0002 is hard to photograph. There is more of a brown/violet cast to it, not beige or yellow.  Pretty, muted and subtle would be the three words to describe the color - it would be a gorgeous sweater.

As the summer winds down, we are finalizing plans to be at the Indie Untangled Rhinebeck Show (October 2016) as well as Vogue Knitting Live NY (January 2017).

And we're excited to have our projects bags find a home at a new Brooklyn yarn store (more about this tomorrow)!

October Yarn Update - It finally happened...

Posted on October 22, 2015 | 0 Comments

Many apologies for the update delay.  The next blog post will explain how the annual New York Sheep and Wool Festival caused the delay in updating the website.

When this Koigu order arrived it wasn't quite what I expected. However you will notice that almost all the colors work together - and they will work well in a gradient project.

P426

I purposely chose P426 even though long time mini skein club members may remember getting a P426 in the January 2015 shipment.  The January mini skein was extremely dark, almost like purple thrown onto of a blue violet.  This P426 is much closer to the color Koigu tries to produce.

P451

Beautiful, beautiful tones of blue.  This will work well for projects for guys as well as gals.

P828

I am not a green person but I love this color way.  Definitely a pair of socks for me!  And it's another great color for both men and women.

P865

To me this is a very saturated version of P426 - they will work well together is you are looking to make a project that shifts from light to dark.

P928D

Yes, it happened - I mistakenly ordered P928 again because the colors looked different in the catalog. But since Koigu is handpainted it is not exactly like the P928 I have in stock already.  This batch (renamed with a D at the end for "dark") has stronger purple and yellow and is blended with an olive oil green. It is a very strong color for the cooler months.

September Yarn Update

Posted on September 09, 2015 | 0 Comments

It's time again for new yarn!   Here are the September pretties and they can all be found here :

P315 - A lovely dark neutral, my first thought was “It’s all the color of a terrarium - brown, shades of green, and a bit of cream mixed in”.  A versatile color that can go with everything.

P414 - Soft orange with blue streaks. These are the colors of several sports teams - perhaps a hat to wear at a game?

P436 - Purple and blue with bits of olive. Very suitable for baby sweaters since the color won't overpower the baby.

P820 - Very nice mix of blues, purples, yellow and pink. It is actually lighter than pictured (I will shoot the color again and replace the photo).

P872 - My favorite out of the September colors. It’s green with pops of neon yellow and pink. I’d love to make a pair of socks out of this color.

P882 - More flashy brights! Yellow and blue really dominant this color way. This would be a fun knitted or crochet toy for a youngster.

There you have it.  I've been busy this past month - I'm lining up a couple of blog posts  about some of the project bags I'm working on and about my visit to some yarn and fabric stores in the Washington DC area.  I hope to get them up in the next week or two.

August Yarn Update

Posted on August 13, 2015 | 0 Comments

Here are 6 colors of Koigu KPPPM that will peak your interest as we approach the end of summer:

P738 - The famous Koigu stippling technique is shown off here, in orange and green.  Looks messy right? However this palette knits up in a subtle way.  Fun for baby items and I definitely see an adult pair of socks.

P353 - At first glance this is an orange and rust colored hank of yarn.  But when you spend a little bit of time with it you realized there's this gorgeous mauve violet that is running through the yarn.  The violet gives this color way unexpected depth. It would be a spectacular shawl!

P219 - Can a color be described as "crayons in the mud"? Most of the colors are green, brown, orange and gold The colors are darker and it seems to tell me that fall is approaching.  A baby blanket or perhaps a circle shawl? It would be terrific as part of a linen stitch scarf.

P151 - The mauve pink, blue and green combine to make a quiet color combination.  And that makes it perfect for that person that doesn't like "loud". Think about a scarf or cowl. Or a beautiful sweater!

P419 - The return of an oldie - the blues of P419 has been in the shop before.  I found a few more skeins and thought Chiagu fans would like buy some more. It will also make an appearance in a few yarn kits.

P810 - my personal favorite!  I am a jewel tone girl and I love bright rich colors.  The blues, reds, and purples are stunning. If I were to knit this color I would definitely make something that I can look at all day long.

I hope to have another shop update in about 2 weeks.  Thanks for reading!
