Finished my sister's double-thick hat,

Posted on November 15, 2001 | 0 Comments

Finished my sister's double-thick hat, but I am NOT happy with it. It is not deep enough (ok do we see a trend here? I suppose it means I am impatient at knitting the hat body and want to get to the decreases ASAP), and there is not enough to fold up. I'm sure it's still going to be nice and warm for her, but I am not too happy with having to give her something I personally wouldn't wear.
I finished the knitting on the AV sweater. Started to sew up the seams, but realized I need to block it first b/c it's all ribbing and therefore is only like half as long as it should be in the body. So now instead of finishing the sweater it is marinating in the closet while I wait to block it. I only have one table that can be used for blocking at it is never visible under all the crap that's on it.

Decided to start working on Christmas present for the people that need presents. . . Mel will be getting a scarf and hat, probably, to match the mittens I already made. I may or may not make something for Matt's brother Jeff (he has requested a Harry Potter hat like the one I made for Matt), depends on how much of a jerk he's being at any particular time. My parents will not be getting anything handmade this year, because they just found out they're definitely moving to Brazil come June, so they would have no need for something warm. I suppose I could make them something in cotton or linen, but I don't have any of that, so it's not going to happen. I gotta use up the yarn I have, I have no money. Matt's mom will eventually be getting an afghan with the yarn she bought me a long time ago, but it probably won't be for Christmas. We're still not getting along so I'm not about to kill myself making her a present. Matt's dad? I was thinking of making him a sweater, but I probably don't have enough time, so he may just get a scarf. =)

So I found someone to

Posted on November 05, 2001 | 0 Comments

So I found someone to sell me an extra skein of the wool, thank you so much Maggie!!! It should be here in a few days, then I can finally finish that sweater! I will be extremely relieved when I finish it, let me tell you.

I also finished that hat I had started, but it turned out too "shallow" so I had to make another one because I really wanted a Penn State hat to wear to the game this past weekend. It turned out it wasn't cold at all, so I didn't need it, but now I have a nice hat! Though the second one is too shallow, too, it is wearable. I made it blue with a white stripe, and the letters "PSU" written in duplicate stitch on the white with blue. It looks very professional! I can't wait to wear it. Hopefully it will be warm enough, it is made in flimsy Red Heart but I did use two strands so that should help.

I played around with designing a reversible cable scarf, and actually got a pretty good design going. I wrote it all down and took pictures of it, so I will post it here when it gets written up and developed/scanned. Unfortunately I got bored with it and am not planning on finishing it.

Instead, I am working on a hat and scarf set for my sister who is currently freezing in Boston. I'm using that 100% wool that was going to be the market bag, and I like the way it's turning out. I'm going to make it double thick (like 2 hats, one inside the other), and I'm using a ribbing pattern where you rib one row then work the other row in st st. This is producing a very nice fabric! It's making me think "perfect for a sweater." Too bad I am going to have to wait on that, I have way too many WIPS right now.

I also just got the Vogue winter edition, and there are some cool things in there! I really want to make the cover sweater, the hooded aran, and one of the color blocked sweaters (all for myself!!!). Also the sweater which has a pinned front looks really cool! I love this issue! Of course, I still have a list of sweaters from the LAST Vogue that I planned on making! So we'll see how much gets done out of that. . . ah, dreaming of knitting. Is there anything better?

Ok, so I really don't

Ok, so I really don't have enough yarn for that sweater. I've put out a call to the KnitU list and the KnitSwap list to try to get another skein or two of that 1824 wool, I am so mad!! I even bought an extra skein when I made the purchase. True, I was substituting yarn, but still! AHHHH! Hopefully someone will come through.
In the meantime I am on a hat kick. I finished that hat for matt and immediately had to make one for myself! I'm using yarn leftover from something else, and definitely won't have enough, so I'll put a nice thick stripe in the middle, with some other yarn. That should work out. =)

Yesterday Matt said to me,

Yesterday Matt said to me, "So did you ever finish that sweater?" and I said, "Which one?" -- his reply? "ANY of them???"

So I've picked the AV sweater up again, and am determined to finish the last 22" of sleeve, so that I can finally finally FINALLY actually finish this thing. I mean it's really not been THAT long, but it's been way longer than necessary. And it's all because I don't think I have enough yarn to finish. I picked it up with the whole sleeve left to do, with only under 3 skeins of yarn left, when the first sleeve took about 4 skeins, so I'm pretty sure I'm gonna run out. What I realized is that I can go and steal some yarn out of the cowl, and use that for the rest of the sleeve, and just make the cowl less dramatic! So now I'm really plugging away, and I'll probably have it finished tonite. After jumping back in, I've already finished 3 of the 5 increase repeats, so am beyond the halfway point. It really is almost done! yeah!

I think the market bag was a bad idea, it is such a waste to do all the work of entrelac with just one color! Feels like I'm making myself do needless stuff, and giving myself a needless headache. So I think I'm changing gears, going to go in one of two directions: Either keep the idea of a felted bag, and just make one the sane way (just like a big hat), OR scrap that idea completely and make the yarn into a hat and scarf set for my sister. There is definitely enough yarn (I think). . . we'll decide that when the time comes, though. For now, back to the sweater!
